Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes — 100% free, no signup, no watermark, no limits. Blur as many photos as you want.
How does the portrait-mode effect work?
On-device AI segments your photo’s subject, the background layer is blurred with the strength you choose, and the sharp subject is composited back on top — the same technique phones use for portrait mode, done entirely in your browser.
Does my photo leave my browser?
No. Your photo never leaves your device — segmentation, blurring and compositing all run locally. The one exception: the first time you use the tool, the AI model (~40MB) downloads once from the Hugging Face model hub so it can run on your device.
What blur strength looks natural?
40–70 looks like a real portrait-mode shot. 100 is heavy, creamy bokeh — great for making a subject pop, but it can look artificial on busy scenes. The slider updates live, so just drag until it looks right.
What kind of photo works best?
A clear subject with some distance between it and the background — people, pets and products all work. The effect is exported at your photo’s full original resolution.
