Frequently asked questions

Will compressing ruin my image quality?

Not if you keep the quality high. The slider defaults to 80–85, where file sizes drop dramatically (often 60–80% smaller) while the photo still looks identical on screen. Drag the slider down only when every kilobyte counts, and always check the preview size before downloading.

Why does the quality slider say it has "no effect" on PNG?

PNG is a lossless format: its encoding ignores the quality number. To shrink PNGs meaningfully, convert them to JPG or WebP with the output-format dropdown instead — that usually cuts sizes by 70% or more.

What is the live size preview?

Every time you move the quality slider, each image is genuinely re-encoded in your browser and the exact output size is shown next to it — no estimates, no guessing. The "~estimate" under the slider is only a rough hint before the first encode.

How many images can I compress at once?

As many as your browser can hold in memory — there are no limits on our side. Each file must be under 50 MB. Use "Download all as ZIP" to grab every compressed file in one go.

Do my images leave my browser?

No. Compression runs 100% locally with canvas encoding — your images are never uploaded, stored or sent to any server, and no CDN downloads are involved.
